BHOOMITHRASENA CLUB
COLLEGE OF APPLIED SCIENCE VATTAMKULAM
Bhoomithrasena was established on 09 November 2009, at the College of Applied Science Vattamkulam as a student-led environmental club. The initiative focuses on fostering environmental awareness and action among students and the local community. Over the years, the club has played a key role in spreading sustainability practices and contributing to the preservation of nature.
Bhoomithrasena encourages active participation in ecological activities, ensuring that environmental conservation is not just a topic of study but a hands-on experience.
Key Activities
Bhoomithrasena has always been at the forefront of promoting sustainable practices. The club has organized and participated in a wide range of environmental initiatives over the years, such as:
Tree Planting Drives: Bhoomithrasena has been actively involved in planting trees to improve the green cover of the campus and surrounding areas.
Cotton Bag Making: Students are taught to make reusable cotton bags, which help in reducing plastic usage.
Eco-Friendly Product Making: The club promotes sustainability by teaching students to make various eco-friendly products such as hand wash, sanitizer, soap powder, and other liquids that are biodegradable and safe for the environment.
Waste Management Audit
This academic year, Bhoomithrasena took a significant step in promoting environmental sustainability by conducting an audit of the existing waste management facilities in the Vattamkulam and Edappal Grama Panchayaths. The audit evaluated the current waste management systems, identified gaps, and suggested improvements to enhance waste segregation, recycling, and disposal processes. The findings were shared with local authorities to assist in policy formation and implementation for a cleaner, greener future.
Annual Nature Camp
As part of Bhoomithrasena’s ongoing efforts to connect students with nature, an annual nature camp is organized every year. This year, the camp was held at the Chimney Wildlife Sanctuary, a beautiful and serene location known for its diverse flora and fauna. The camp allowed students to engage in various environmental activities, including wildlife observation, eco-awareness programs, and discussions on conservation.
The nature camp is designed to provide students with the knowledge and experience to become environmental ambassadors and advocates.
The Bhoomithra Sena volunteers are actively engaging in a sustainable initiative to collect scrap in order to meet the expenses for the production of cotton bags. This initiative is part of their broader commitment to environmental conservation and promoting eco-friendly practices on campus. By collecting scrap material, the volunteers aim to raise funds while also contributing to reducing waste and promoting recycling efforts within the college community. This innovative approach not only supports the production of essential cotton vags but also encourages students to actively participate in environmental stewardship and waste management.
